My watch will not count my workout calories in the active calories ring. It will say I worked out, it will tell me the amount of calories I burned, but then it will not include them in the move ring. WHY? It is driving me crazy.

I have never had this issue before, it just started happening after the update. My watch will count my burned calories during workouts, and if I burn enough, I will even get the notification "You closed your move ring!" Then I finish the workout, and I look at my rings and the move ring is not closed and doesn't even include the calories I just burned for the workout. My watch still has the workout in the fitness - example: 5 miles run and I burned 480 active calories, 520 total calories. So the workout is there, but it will not show up in the ring. So even though I closed the ring, it isn't closed. WTF is going on? I'm one of the avid "I have to close the rings" people. This is driving me crazy. I've turned it off, I've unpaired it, I don't know what else to do. This doesn't happen every single time, but it has been happening 8/10 times. Do I need a replacement watch? Help!

If all settings normal but behaviour is irrational there is a progressive hierarchy of  remedies.

Hopefully you will not need to go to the end of the list!

First make sure you are not using VPN or VPN adblockers or security apps on the iPhone. They can wreak havoc and protect nothing.

Start by force restarting the Watch and paired iPhone at the same time:-

Force restart the Watch

i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then while Watch is restarting, force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

You may also want to make sure the software on the watch and iphone  are both up to date to the same level. Updates are in pairs. eg iOS16.6 and watchOS 9.6 go together

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support first then

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Test it for a while. If it is still misbehaving...

Unpair and set up again, takes about 20 minutes.

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

Set up your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

If no remedy, unpair and setup without restoring the backup. You will lose little.
