macbook pro adjust sleep settings without energy saver option

my macbook pro keeps going to sleep within just a few min, it's a very short time. I googled for a way to change this but it looks like the 'old way' via energy saver is no longer available - battery has replaced energy saver option. I also went into 'display' but there is no 'advanced' option as one post suggested.

Is there a way I can set my macbook not to go dim and go into sleep mode so quickly? I'm often in the middle of reading something and have to constantly move my mouse to keep it awake. Thanks!

Apple does like to move the settings/preferences around a lot in recent years. I can never recall where a certain setting is at now. For laptops, Energy Saver was replaced by Battery.

Here are some places to check in the System Preferences/Settings or you can try using the search feature in the System Preference/Settings pane (different from Spotlight search) to try to locate various settings...best way to locate settings in Ventura):

  • Battery (look at the "Advanced" or "Options" button/link too)
  • Display....don't forget to check any "Advanced" or "Option" buttons/links as well
  • Screensaver

You want to look for the option "Slightly dim display on battery" setting if you don't want the display to be dimmed every time it wakes from sleep, wakes the screen, or logs in. You may also need to look at the settings for putting laptop to sleep or turning off display when on battery power.

I'm not a Mac at the moment to look for the exact locations of various settings especially since some of these settings have moved multiple times over the past three years, so knowing the version of macOS is important if you want a precise location.
