How to download iMovie 9 for Mac Catalina -- tried numerous times all the suggestions so far

Tried using Terminal as previous comment from Rich suggested for Catalina OS. Terminal just installs the iMovie 9.0.9 UPDATE, which is grayed out with blocked circle. No way to click to install the actual iMovie 9 program FIRST, so the update can be applied. All grayed out in App folder.

Isn't there a solution to install iMovie 9 program on 10.15 Catalina??

Or to release the program that supposedly resides inside the 9.0.9 update?

I don't believe that iMovie 9 will run on Catalina. I can't get it to run on the previous operating system, Mojave. In any event, there is no way to download iMovie 9 by conventional means, because it has been discontinued. However, see below.

With each iteration of the operating system in the recent past, iMovie 9 has become increasingly less functional until it finally stopped working. On my system, it seemed to work O.K. with and High Sierra.

You could try creating a boot disk and installing High Sierra on it. Then download iMovie 9 to High Sierra, where it should work. Take a look at the tread in this link, particularly the post by spectre_ghost, and thereafter, regarding downloading iMovie 9:
