Apple ID disabled due to gift card reported lost/stolen: Next steps?
Recently, I cleaned out my room and found some old Apple gift cards relatives had given me for my birthday/Christmas a while back and redeemed them. Everything went as expected, then a few weeks later I try to download an app. I get a notification that my “Apple ID is disabled in the App Store and iTunes.”
So I text Apple Support, hoping they can figure out what’s going on. They don’t provide any information other than the fact that my account is disabled. Their recommendation is to make a new Apple ID. They do offer to set up a callback with telephone support though!
The telephone callback admittedly was a little bit more helpful. They told me that someone had reported a gift card I had redeemed as lost or stolen, which led to my account being disabled. However, it is permanently locked and there is nothing they can do from their end. They also advised me to create a new Apple ID.
So my questions are:
- Is there any hope for recovering my current Apple ID? Anyone I can escalate to? Any other departments that might have the power to either reverse the gift card redemption or remove the block?
- If not, how can I transfer as much of my current Apple ID to my new account as possible? Priorities include contacts, passwords, photos, etc.
Thanks!
