iPhone Unknown Battery and not Charging after 16.6 Update

Hello. My daughter's iPhone 12 Mini is not charging and has a Battery Unknown message. The phone automatically updated yesterday and has since started to act up. Her home screen app icons have turned to black and white radar looking blocks and it will not charge. We plug it in and it charges to 1%. We then check it or try to open the battery app and it turns off. It's still plugged in and will restart a few moments later. There is an "Important Battery Message" in her settings that leads to an "Unknown Part" message. That's about as far as we can go before it turns off again. Her phone is 7 months old and has no new parts. Is anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it?

Perform a Forced Restart on the phone. Follow the instructions very carefully, as this is a bit tricky. You may need to repeat this several times.

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

There are only 2 possible results when you perform a Forced Restart:

1) The phone returns to normal operation

otherwise......

2) There is a hardware problem with the phone that will need attention at the Apple Store (make an appointment) or visit an authorized Apple Service shop
