I was just issues a refund from Fanatics.com I told them I used Apple Pay but that I no longer have that debit card or bank account. They told me that my refund would just go into my Apple Pay account. I looked online for a similar question but found nothing for this issue. I want to know if this is what will actually happen? I do have the Apple Cash digital card will it just be refunded to that?

If the account was in good standing when closed, the bank will return the funds or refuse acceptance. Funds are then returned to send (merchant) and return must be performed again.
If the closed account has an outstanding balance due, bank will apply funds to balance due and return any unneeded portion to merchant.
Merchant will generally receive funds in 5 to 7 business days after receiving bank refuses transfer of funds.
I’d advise merchant of the return so that the refund can be properly processed.

Bank will eventually return to sender/merchant. I would alert them to that. There is no such thing as an Apple Pay account, so how can funds be transferred there? It could have been sent Apple Cash account, but again, they need that number.
Your refund will be sent only to the original payment method. If you purchased using a debit card, the refund will post back to that card.
You need to contact Apple Support and see how to resolve this. Please call 1-800-MY-APPLE
You have to do the refund back through your iPhone at the transaction terminal. Store would process refund and you pull up Apple Cash card in Wallet app for Apple Pay. You double click and hold iPhone near terminal and refund is processed.
I recently just got issued a refund that I used Apple Pay with the card and account is no longer in use. The merchant stated that the payment has already been accept by Apple Pay but I called apple and they stated they can’t do anything about it. The money is just up in limbo which is crazy
Problem is that card doesn’t exist and neither does that bank account! It’s a closer account
