Apple Maps Zoom bug or is this by design?

Greetings... Everytime I'm on the highway and there is a traffic congestion, accident or some delay in the road, Apple maps zooms all the way out to view the entire route. Once we past the traffic jam, the maps stays zoomed out until you have to turn off. Is this a bug or normal?

Maps automatically zooms in during CarPlay navigation When using CarPlay navigation, Apple Maps automatically zooms in to the maximum zoom level. I can zoom out two levels to have everything as expected, but zooming out a third step does not work: after a few seconds the zoom level goes back to maximum.
