Use a New App Password for Each Device:

Do you use an App Password? If so, try a new App Password. Create a unique one for each device. Remove the current one, and then use the new one instead. Sometimes, changes (i.e. updates) are made to the device, and then mail server syncing becomes an issue (which is what a new App Password it intended to fix).

Try Safe Mode:

Boot your Mac in Safe Mode, and then see if this works. In Safe Mode, damages fils (i.e. caches) are often fixed, an login items never run at login. Go here: Start up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support

Many of these 'provided by one company', 'hosted on another company' require the ENTIRE email address as the login name, like 'M.......@bellsouth.net' as the USERNAME

On another note, can you log in to that account using WebMail (a browser connection where you surf to the Mail provider's web site click a Mail button and get access to mail that way?

if you have been using the Yahoo setup icon to set up your mail, try instead using 'regular' random email setup icon. Then when when you specify server, indicate yahoo.com.

if that does not work see if specifying bellsouth.net or Att.net works.

Contact the Network Administrator:

If this is a work account, then you need to use the correct mail protocol (SMTP, POP3 or IMAP4) and the correct port number for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

what is a 'secure mail key'? did you have that lying around?
