converting MOD video files on a Mac

I have a video in MOD format that I would like to download onto my MAC. How can I convert it so that I can view it? What are the best and safest video conversion tools? Thank you.

If these files come from a camcorder, in most cases conversion is not really necessary.

MOD files can be just MPEGs in MOD file containers. You can try to just rename the file so it has a mpeg extension instead of MOD.

Otherwise, the conversion tools for MOD are few and far between at this point.

You can try https://apps.apple.com/us/app/anyvideo-converter-hd/id438670247?mt=12

But it's not free.

Things like VLC Player will play them directly.
