When downloading a program for school it states that my MacOS needed to be updated to 10.15. I was never given the option to update my computer and when going to the system preferences or the app store there is no option to do so.

Back up your data, check the application compatibility table, click here, and if your MacBook Pro is a 2012 or newer model, then on the download link for it.
Catalina and above won't run 32-bit software; use Go64 as well.
