How can I just view photos in my iCloud on my MacBook Air and NOT have them go onto my MacBook Air and take up space?

I just want to view my iCloud Photos and video but not save them to my computer (MacBook Air). I've looked and looked and read but I'm an idiot. Appreciate it.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.5

You cannot. Anything in iCloud is also on your Mac. You can elect to optimize storage so that your originals remain in iCloud and optimized versions stay on the Mac
