Do I need a payment method to download a free app?

My issue is, that the last two times I added my card it started getting charged I didn’t make. So I would like to avoid the adding a card in general but I don’t know.

This issue of not being able to download free apps without submitting my credit card info is going to lead me to dropping apple products if it isn’t fixed. It creates an avenue for hacking.

Whew! I almost bought a class set of iPads. Now that Apple does forces payment methods in all downloads I will not be using Apple products in the classroom. Adios!

I can’t download anything it say there is a billing problem with someone on my plan

i can’t download anything on app store until i add a payment which i don’t have. what do i do?

I had the same problem but checked off none when asking for a payment method and just filled out the rest information then I pressed get again and managed to install it. I don't know if that will work for you but I recommend you try that first and if that doesn't work you can follow step 2 of Heinminthu's suggestion.

I mentioned before I just checked off none when it asked for a payment method and just filled out the rest of the information then I clicked get again then install again and was able to download my free app on my iPad. I don't know if it will work for everybody depending on your version. Another commenter gave various suggestions on how to get around not using a paying method when downloading free apps on this topic above. Just find his/her post and you can try to follow their instructions if what if what I suggested doesn't work.

Yes, you need to add a payment method. In most countries, it can be a credit or debit card or an iTunes Gift card.
