How to Cancel iMessage Banners - Help

I have a MBP running Monterey. For a while now I have been getting i Message banner notifcations on my MBP, top right hand corner of the screen. Not a problem, but I can not seem to cancel them. Again to clarify, I am not talking about canceling, or turning off Notifications from iMessages as a general rule, I am reffering to actual Banners that pop up when a iMessage comes in, and I try to cancel them by clicking on the small "x" at the top left of the banner box.

Ive tried clicking on "Options", mark as read etc, but that does cancel the banner.

Any ideas whats cooking here? How do I get rid of them?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Clicking the x should dismiss the banner exactly as you expect it should.

The reason yours is not doing that is a mystery. If restarting your Mac in the usual manner does not restore correct behavior then reinstalling macOS is justified.

You're not doing anything wrong. I assume that's the reason we have been having difficulty comprehending the problem. It's analogous to clicking the red "close" button in a window and not having it close. That's just not right.

You might try a "safe boot", Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support, followed by restarting normally, but if restarting your Mac in the usual manner does not fix it the next logical step would be to reinstall macOS. Whatever is causing that nonresponsiveness will not be easily determined.

Your guess was perfect, it is indeed a Banner 100 percent. An iMessage came in and a "banner" notification popped up in the right hand top corner of my MBP. I have clicked the small "x" which I explained my original post, the same thing that you suggested that I did. That doesn't work.

There is no, none, zero possibility that it is anything else, it is indeed a "Banner" notification, and even if it wasn't, which it is, it is not closing when the "x" is clicked, nor if when you go into "options" in the Banner box, and click Mark as Read.

To avoid any confusion I have done what you have requested and have attached a screen shot.

Let me know what you suggest. Thanks

Broady again you are not reading my question. Its a banner, no question about that, but I have already explained in my original post that I am clicking on the small "x" on the banner to close it, and that doesn't work. In your reply to my question, you are suggesting that I do exactly that, click on the small "x". I don't need a suggestion to do something that Ive already clearly explained that I am doing.

Secondly and to avloid any confusion whatsoever. I am not talking about stopping all future notification banners here. I get how to do that, via "Notifications". I am referring to a "Banner" which has popped up on the right hand of my MBP screen, and I can not close/cancel it. Ive clicked the "x", Ive clicked "options" Mark as read etc. It doesnt work. The banner will not close down/cancel.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

Bud I have explained that already (3) three times in my previous messages, including my original query.

1) "Ive tried clicking on "Options", mark as read etc, but that does cancel the banner."

2) " Ive clicked the "x", Ive clicked "options" Mark as read etc. It doesnt work. The banner will not close down/cancel."

3) "it is not closing when the "x" is clicked, nor if when you go into "options" in the Banner box, and click Mark as Read."

Any other ideas?

John thanks for taking the trouble to actually read my messages. Yep it beats me, clicking on the "x" does nothing, the banner just stays where it is. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, or there was maybe a setting that needed tweaking, but a hard boot seems to be the only way unless anyone else has a bright idea?

Thanks again John, its much appreciated.
