Can I use My very OLD NEAT (ND-1000) table top scanner with my 2017 MAC( Monterey.)

I doubt the ND 1000 was blue tooth, but I don't remember how I attached it to my MAC. I don't see a cord in the box that would work, maybe have to hunt in my box of misc. cords?

It would have to physically attach, yet?

With any scanner lacking current support from its maker, you can try using Image Capture, an Apple app already on your Mac. Connect the scanner with a USB cable and try it.

I seldom use the software that scanner makers supply; I have been using IC instead for years. Easier and much more reliable IMHO. This Apple article will help:

Scan images in Image Capture on Mac - Apple Support

You can also import digicam images from a camera or its card with IC. It is far easier to learn than many of the "transfer" software that camera companies supply.

Thank you. Good information about the power adapter as well. It looks like the scanner possibly could use Apple's Image Capture with an added driver (at least according to the links in my previous reply), even up to macOS 12 Monterey, but other pages indicate that macOS 10.14 Mojave is the latest (and that macOS 10.15 Catalina will not work). Differences due to use without or with Neat's software? A bit confusing.

Hi,

Was it a USB connection?

I am not in any way familiar with these scanners. The ND-1000 and all other models appear to be retired and not supported any more. The information about Mac software on the site is not always easy to understand. The following web pages could possibly be of some interest to you, though.

Whether or not something can be made to work is unknown to me. You should probably look upon everything as entirely experimental. As always, make sure that backup copies of all important files/documents/photos have been made if you decide to test anything.

Not really relevant to this thread, but I have an older Brother Multi-function printer, scanner, copier, fax machine that is no longer supported by Brother in the current macOS. There are printer drivers that still work fine, but their older scanner software won't run under current macOS and their current scanner software no longer recognizes this older device.

It does have a built-in feature that can scan and upload a PDF to an FTP server, you can configure the FTP server user/account info on the printer admin page via a web browser. At one time, I knew how to configure the ftp server on the Mac in OS X, but with periodic updates, you might have to set it up again. I found an app called "FTP server" that lets you set one up on the Mac. So, using the Brother built-in scan to FTP server feature, and setting up the FTP Server app on my Mac, I can still use that old scanner part of the multi-function device. It is handy because it has a multi-sheet feeder as well as a flat top scanning bed.
