Airtag won’t work after changing battery

I followed all the steps and replaced the battery and when I closed it the AirTag didn’t make the sound it’s supposed to when you replace the battery and my phone won’t connect to it

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions on this. I was replacing two batteries, neither of which worked. I wiped each battery with an alcohol wipe to take the coating off and dried it off, placed them back into the AirTags and both beeped and connected. Problem solved.

This worked!

I had a low battery and the notice wouldn’t disappear from my Find My app even after replacing the battery.

I tried 3 different batteries, 2 Energizers and a Duracell.

I also cleaned the bitterant coating off of each and it didn’t help.

I ended up using a Duracell 2032 and inserted and removed the battery 5x times before trying to connect it.

The Airtag actually made a different sound after installing the battery the 5th time, and then my iPhone AND iPad found it immediately and it connected no problem.

Thanks Louis!

If you are using a battery with a bitterant coating (such as Duracell), I recommend: (1) clean negative and positive sides plus the edges with a cotton swab and alcohol; (2) scuff the negative and positive sides plus the edges with a non-conductive abrasive (such as sand paper or Scotch Brite Pad); (3) repeat step one and allow alcohol to fully evaporate; (5) return to battery replacement instructions. Good Luck!
