I followed all the steps and replaced the battery and when I closed it the AirTag didn’t make the sound it’s supposed to when you replace the battery and my phone won’t connect to it
Does the “new” battery have a bitterant coating? (Common on Duracells)
It will prevent the battery from working.

All batteries Duracell and Eveready have the child safety coating
they are all made with that bitter coating
Changed battery, doesn't have bittex coating
& not found by phone
No coating , batteries worked in another AirTag
Had 2 AirTags. Successfully changed the battery in one, tested the beeper. All ok. 2nd AirTag not successful. Tried 3 batteries, it’s deleted from my phone.
Same with me and 250 people yet no response or an answer. I have had an AirTag right next to my phone and it child find it. Ridiculous.

The spit worked!
Put new battery in air tag and wasted over an hour…still unable to connect to iPhone and find my app 🧐
checked I was connected to iCloud.
SOLVED! Put the new battery in (negative side down, positive side up) and LEAVE COVER OFF. Press the battery down until you hear a faint beep. Remove battery, then repeat that process (should be 5 times total) until you hear a different, louder beeping noise. Then pop the top on, turn into place and you should be good to go!
