why do I have to go through 2FA every time I sign in?

It’s so frustrating that I have to go through 2FA every time I sign in with my Apple ID and I am constantly re entering my ID and password. Even if I click on “trust the browser” and “remember me”!

Recently my iPhone locked me out because it wanted me to enter my passcode for my Touch ID which I had recently set up with a 6 digit number. The intention was to be more secure, but I couldn’t remember the code and my iPhone showed no mercy… the Cancel option didn’t cancel and when I tried to log into my accounts on my MacBook it kept sending 2FA codes to my phone which I couldn’t get into!

I don’t have another mobile to trust so I tried the landline to phone me and get 2FA codes that way, but kept sending messages wanting to text a 2FA code to the landline, which can’t receive texts.

It completely disabled me…because of 2FA I couldn’t sign in to my trusted iPhone or laptop because my “trusted” device was not available.

Why is it so difficult to cancel 2FA? Or have some alternative if this can’t work for you?

I contacted Apple support and after”trying” a few things it was decided that I needed to take the phone to be repaired. As a result, phone had to be recovered.

Could anyone help with why l have to go through 2FA every single time I sign in ?

Hello Adore_Petrichor,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

It's not a question of it being difficult or not to cancel two-factor authentication, it's that it can't be canceled. You can take a look at this article for more information on two-factory authentication: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID

From that article: "If you're already using two-factor authentication with your Apple ID, you can't turn it off. If you updated to two-factor authentication inadvertently, you can turn it off within two weeks of enrollment. If you do, your account is less secure and you can't use features that require a higher level of security."

Hope this answers your question.

Best regards.
