I have copies of pdf files on my ipad, in Acrobat, and I have the same files on my iMac desktop. If I delete the ones from the ipad, will I lose the ones on my desktop? Thanks for any input.

Well, the answer depends on exactly where these documents are housed. If you have chosen to use iCloud Drive, then there is only one version of these documents, and deleting it removes it from everywhere. If you stored them locally on both the iPad and Mac, then there are two copies, and you may delete one without affecting the other.
