Some activities such as charging or a lot of computational activity (e.g., video), generate heat. Some warmth is to be anticipated.* Read this article about keeping your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures - If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

Changes in software such as upgrades may introduce new features which may add to power drain and heat generation. Check Settings > Battery to see if there are apps running that use a lot of power. If there are, decide if you can turn off a service such as Settings > General > Background app refresh when an app is in the background. Clear Space, Using my User Tips:

Excessive heat in an iPhone can be concerning, as it could potentially indicate an underlying issue. While some degree of heat generation is normal during heavy usage, such as when running resource-intensive apps or using the camera extensively, sustained high temperatures that make the phone uncomfortable to hold or use are not typical and could be a cause for concern.

Here are a few steps you can take to address the overheating issue:

1. Check App Usage: Check which apps are using the most resources and generating the most heat. Some apps may be more resource-intensive than others, causing the phone to heat up. You can go to "Settings" > "Battery" to see which apps are using the most power.

2. Background App Refresh: Disable or limit background app refresh for apps that you don't need to constantly update in the background. This can help reduce the load on the device.

3. Software Updates: Ensure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes that could help with overheating issues.

4. Reset Settings: You can try resetting your device's settings to their default values. This won't erase your data but will reset settings like network connections, display settings, and notifications.

5. Manage Location Services: Some apps use location services in the background, which can contribute to overheating. You can control which apps have access to your location under "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Location Services."

6. Contact Apple Support: If you've already been to the Apple Store and the issue persists, you might want to contact Apple Support again. Explain the situation and the steps you've taken so far. If multiple users are reporting similar issues, Apple might release software updates or offer guidance on resolving the problem.

7. Monitor Usage Patterns: Pay attention to when your phone tends to overheat. If it consistently heats up during specific activities, it could help you identify the root cause.

If you've already tried these steps and your iPhone is still experiencing excessive heat, it's important to have the issue addressed. Overheating can potentially lead to performance problems or even hardware damage over time. If Apple Support continues to dismiss the issue and you're experiencing the problem consistently, you could consider seeking a second opinion from an authorized service provider or reaching out to Apple's support channels again.
