HomePod mini interfering with iPhone and Bluetooth devices

A couple of months ago, we introduced an Apple HomePod mini set up to our home, and ever since I've been having major issues connecting Bluetooth devices to my iPhone. Basically, when I am home and I attempt to connect to another Bluetooth device (such as a portable speaker, my car, motorbike/helmet etc.) to my iPhone, I get a "Connection unsuccessful" message, and I have to completely disable Bluetooth and re-enable it again and then force connect the device. It is important to note that this only happens at home, I've never had any issues with Bluetooth away from the house.

I thought it seemed odd that the HomePod mini should be causing such an issue. So, for the past week I have not used the HomePod mini it in an experiment, and I had no Bluetooth connectivity issues with my iPhone and other Bluetooth devices at home. This morning I turned the HomePod Mini back on, and immediately could not connect to other Bluetooth devices from my iPhone without first disabling and then re-enabling Bluetooth on my phone.

What could be causing this issue? And how can I stop the interference?

Hi there eemo_crash,

If you're only experiencing this issue with Bluetooth while you're at home and using your HomePod mini, it could be an issue with the number of devices using the same frequency. Have a look at the suggestions below for some steps you can take to help reduce wireless interference:

How to reduce wireless interference
These general steps can help achieve a cleaner, stronger wireless signal:
* Bring your Wi-Fi device closer to your Wi-Fi router. Bring the Bluetooth devices that are connecting to each other closer together.
* Avoid using your wireless devices near common sources of interference, such as power cables, microwave ovens, fluorescent lights, wireless video cameras, and cordless phones.
* Reduce the number of active devices that use the same wireless frequency band. Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices use the 2.4 GHz band, but many Wi-Fi devices can use the 5 GHz band instead. If your Wi-Fi router supports both bands, it might help to connect more of your Wi-Fi devices to the 5GHz band. Some dual-band routers manage this for you automatically.
* Configure your Wi-Fi router to use a different Wi-Fi channel, or have it scan for the channel with the least interference. Most routers perform this scan automatically on startup or when reset.

I’ve got multiple HomePod and HomePod mini devices, pretty much one in every room as well as several other Bluetooth devices (Jabra telephone headset, AirPod pro, Bluetooth connected soundbars on 2 TVs, MacBook Pro, desktop pc, printer, Bluetooth remotes for 2 cable TV boxes, Bluetooth remote for fireTV, Alexa devices that I connect my phone to over Bluetooth) and I had no connectivity issues until I added a new mini a year or so ago. Given I had several already without such issue I returned the faulty unit, and got a replacement. It worked fine. I can only assume some of the units are faulty and yours likely too. I would speak to Apple about doing an RMA to replace it.
