When calling out using my iPhone XS cell, my phone rings twice and then drops the call. A similar thing happens with incoming calls. They cut off after a couple of rings.
This dysfunction started after installing the latest iPhone update.

Troubleshooting Ringing Issues After Update:
A. Contact your Carrier:
Contact your Carrier, as they are the one who configures the feature of Calling.
B. Restore from a Backup:
If you have an option to update, always be certain you back up your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update. If you never created one, then take this as a learning experience, from here on out.
C. Give Apple Feedback:
Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know how gmail is a bit better. Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.
