Why can't I enter my Apple Card as a payment method in Wallet & Apple Pay?

When I try to enter my Apple Card in Wallet & Apple Pay, I get a message "Could Not Add Card - Try again later or contact your card issuer for more information". I have already spoken to the card issuer and they have told me that all the information is correct. The physical card does not show any information other than my first & last names, but I have all the card information recorded in a notebook for reference. The card is not expired. I

Can anyone enlighten me on this? I have an iPhone SE 3rd generation, and an iPad (probably 3rd generation). Both are updated with current iOS. Have tried this on both devices and get the same non-result.
