LeCie has the wrong cable for an iMac 27"

My old external drive failed to back-up my iMac so I bought a LaCie from the Apple Store.

The cable only connected to the new USB C; my Mac has USB A sockets only. The Mac Shop could not help. LaCie could not help. I had to order the right cable on line and it cost me a further £21.58.

Why soes Apple presume that we ahve the latest Mac? Wahy were the tight cnnectors suppled witht he external drive?

Apple does not make LaCie drives. And FWIW, USB-C to USB-A adapters are available for a few dollars. On Amazon, about £7 on average for two.
