I am trying to add my songs purchased on Amazon to my itunes library. I can't figure out how to download the songs to my computer and I'm not an idiot. Help?

Someone was able to do it but didn't share how. I'm going nuts here.

If I've understood your subject line correctly, you can't work out how to download your Amazon purchases to your computer. Let's go through the complete process.

Typically, when you download Amazon purchases on the same occasion, even though they might be shown as separate purchases, Amazon download them all as one Zip file.

At purchase time, Amazon usually present you with an option to download those purchases. Alternatively, if you look in your account, you can eventually find all your purchases. Currently (at the time of writing in August 2023), the steps are as follows:

    1. sign into your Amazon account
    2. tap on your User Name (top right) and from the menu that appears, select Your Music
    3. on the page that opens, the tap Library drop down menu (at the top of the page) and select Music
    4. on the page that opens, select Purchased
    5. the page that opens up shows all your purchases

Why oh why would anyone make it that complicated? It wasn't always like this and if there is a more direct route, I can no longer find it.

Once you have downloaded a Zip file, you need to locate that Zip file on your computer (probably in your Downloads folder, as mine are). It may be named as Amazon-Music-Download_yyyy-mm-dd_hh-mm, or by artist name:

and then right-click (the folder) and select Extract All from the context menu:

On other occasions, just to add to the confusion, Amazon download each song as a separate Zip file. The four folders for Nuit - Tony Anderson in the screenshot for example. While writing this post I have realised it is because the tracks have different guest artists on them.

(For some considerable time Amazon have been making it more complicated to buy and download music from their store, especially individual tracks. One might be forgiven for coming to the conclusion (as I have) that they don't want us to buy music from them.)

During the Extract All procedure, you have the choice of where to place the extracted files. Once you have the MP3s extracted and located where you want them, you then use iTunes' top bar menu:

    • for a folder full of songs - File/Add Folder to Library. Navigate to and select the folder and tap the Select Folder button (do not go into the folder itself)
    • for individual tracks - File/Add File to Library. Navigate and go into the folder with the track, select the track and tap Open button

Not the difference in the two procedures.

The songs should now be in your Library.
