M2 MacBook Pro screen crack for no apparent reason

Similar to M1 MacBook Air screen cracking reports during normal use or overnight, without any apparent reason, my MacBook M2 pro screen suffered same. My mac is not even completely one year old, it was working perfectly before I went to sleep last night and when I woke up there was a crack on left side of the mac, after a few hours when I saw it again the crack became bigger and the whole display was black, before it was atleast working half side normally but then it wasn’t at all. I closed it properly, I did not damage it I’m any ways, it didn’t move the whole night. The mac from outside shows no damages on the screen but when switched on the screen display shows white lines and black screen. This had a already happened with over 3600 users and discussions have taken place in “MacBook air M1 screen crack for no apparent reason”, same has happened with me but now I’m M2 and MacBook Pro. The images attached below shows the spread of the crack. I can say with 100% confidence that it has not been physically damaged.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.4

You still have one year warranty. Like mine, I just told them that it is factory defect and showing them this discussion. I got mine repaired for free so you should defend that you deserve to get it repaired for free under warranty. Go to other Apple store and tell them it wasn’t an accident but factory defect. Try to speak to manager and explain.

Okay i’m extremely distraught… paid $2,500 for this m2 16” laptop, and my screen fully went black with random cracks and the colored lines in the corner and there’s no way I can get it to work again. Has anyone had their screen go black as well? I’m so confused because the laptop was literally never dropped and it’s quite new? has anyone been able to find a way to make apple fix it with no cost because this clearly isn’t our fault it’s theirs??😭😭

Same. I requested to talk to a manager at Apple Store. Every staffs were managers apparently. One of staff told me his MacBook Pro screen cracked with no reason and he had to pay for repair. He asked me to do the same or leave. There were more than 20 staffs in the store more than customers. They just gathered and giggled each other but no one even tried to look at this forum which I was trying to show. They are only interested in selling new. I ended up paying $800 total for repair and paid $270 Apple care. I have previously worked for a company dealing with LCD panel. We did a lot of stress test on LCD panel such as bending pressing dropping etc. curious if Apple did any thorough testing on LCD and bezel by themselves or left it up to its suppliers?

Well, I got lucky I negotiated. I live in Indonesia and service center in Indonesia suggested me to call the center in Singapore which they provided the number to me. I spoke with him and he investigated. I could convince him (under my one year warranty). He suggested me to bring it back to Service Center in Jakarta and helped my claim. Well, I got mine done now without paying.

I left my MacBook Pro in its case and came home this evening took it out and tried to turn it on and noticed a crack on the bottom right and it won’t even turn on. It seems like the crack is on the inside and not outside.

I thought I was going crazy because I have not dropped it or had anything fallen on it and not even knocked it into anything. This is so strange because last night it was working perfectly well.

I’m shocked that this is an issue that is common with the M1 MacBook Pro! So this is actually Apple’s fault yet they are still demanding that the customer pay for something that is not our fault!

I will have to take mine in and see what they say!

I’ve had a 15” M2 MacBook Air for 4 months and just had the same issue. I was just typing on my table and a line popped up on the right side of the screen.

after a couple minutes it spread to half of the right side and it looks like there is a crack behind the glass of the panel (the glass has no physical damage).

This is my first MacBook and it’s been great so far, but I was really disappointed to find this forum with so many others experiencing the same issue.

Last night, while working, I noticed a white line over the “Air” label on my MacBook Air M1. When I tried to wipe it away with my finger, I realized it was actually a crack. I was shocked because I take good care of my Mac, and no one has entered my room for the past two weeks. As a freelancer, my MacBook is essential for paying my bills, so this unexpected crack was distressing. If someone from the Apple team is reading this, I believe I’m not the only one facing this issue. Please address it promptly; it’s a genuine problem.

I purchased my macbook pro in the US Oct 2023. I am based in Indonesia so I brought the unit to service centre in Jakarta. They helped me with the claim to apple service centre in Singapore, so I can get repaired for free. They gave me the number of service center to complain this issue. I spoke with the customer service, providing reasons and issues. They checked the unit and reported to the center. And they finally approved my claim, so I just dropped my unit in Jakarta service centre.

Same issue here. Literally closed it for a few hours, came back to it and the whole right side is cracked and black screen. I closed it and the next morning came back to it, and it was even more cracked. At this point I think it’s best if I just leave it open or it may damage the whole screen. Still don’t see how my screen cracked in the first place. (M1 MacBook Air 2020)

This won't stay up long because either applebots or heartless applehumans have me tagged as a troublemaker and remove my posts about this issue. But if those of us who have lost thousands of dollars and spent countless frustrating hours trying to get restitution started contacting Youtubers, journalists, and high-profile mac specialists and ask them if they know about the issue, maybe we can get some traction. Just a thought. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
