Please contact your Carrier as VoiceMail is a carrier-specific feature --> Check your voicemail on iPhone - Apple Support

You may try some of these steps, please check after each step...

The delayed Voice Mail message typically indicates an issue with the settings on your iPhone. There are several potential reasons for this error, and here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem:

  1. Ensure that your iPhone has a stable internet or cellular connection. Voicemail services may require a data connection to function correctly.
  2. Check if there are any carrier settings updates available for your iPhone. Carrier updates can sometimes resolve voicemail-related issues.
  3. Contact your carrier's customer support to ensure there are no known issues with their voicemail services in your area.
  4. If you have call forwarding enabled, try disabling it to see if it resolves the voicemail problem. Go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding and turn it off if it's enabled.
  5. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
    1. Restart the device. That's it.
    2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  6. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.
    1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  7. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

I wonder if the problem might not be Consumer Cellular. Mobile virtual network operators like Consumer Cellular use one of the big carrier's network (Consumer Cellular uses, I believe both AT&T and TMobile, depending on area) but then they have their own system this all has to interface with. I've seen problems with MVNOs like this in the past. Calling for help usually devolves into finger-pointing between the MVNO and the big carrier.

You can try resetting your network settings. It may help, it won't hurt and it doesn't take long. Go to Settings>General>Transfer & Reset iPhone>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will lose saved WiFi passwords but that's it.

With Apple and Verizon not working together what our options?

What sometimes works with misbehaving carrier features is to have the carrier remove the feature from the account, let the account refresh in the switch (takes about a minute) and then add the feature back. In the case of Voicemail, it might be more than one feature: voicemail and voicemail notification. Depending on the carrier, there may be a third feature, visual voicemail. And no, it doesn't always work.

If this was an issue caused by iOS, this forum would be FLOODED with people complaining about delayed voicemail messages. It's not being flooded at all and tbh, you're the first I've seen come here suggesting iOS caused voicemail issues. Verizon is the KING at playing the blame game. We see it here all the time. A user has a phone issue and Verizon tells the user it's an iPhone or iOS issue. Why? Because they are too lazy to do their job. To do their job would require going into your account to see if something wasn't provisioned properly. That takes time and effort. And honestly as long as you pay your bill on time, they simply don't seem to want to do any work to help you when you have an issue with their services.

Elevate this higher with Verizon. Don't accept the blame game, something they have learned to do so well.

Apple has absolutely, literally, positively, nothing to do with the delivery of voicemail or its notifications. It is absolutely, 100% a carrier provided feature.

Yes, carriers blame Apple and Apple blames carriers from time to time, but in this situation, Apple has every right to blame the carrier, because isn't a carrier, they don't deliver voicemail or notifications of voicemail.

I would't be inclined to lean towards an iOS issue. I have iOS 16.6 on my iPhone 14 Max Pro and my carrier is AT&T and there are absolutely no delays in receiving voicemail. As stated above, voicemail is a carrier supported feature. If via Verizon, your voicemail is being delayed, your iPhone isn't delaying them. Verizon is. You need to work this out with Verizon as Apple doesn't have anything to do with carrier supported features.

I have had this voicemail issue intermittently for years. I am in the real estate business and I can't answer my phone immediately all the time. For instance, just this morning at 7:30 AM I received a notification of a voicemail that was left yesterday by a potential customer at 8:56 AM. I am losing business over this, plus I look like an idiot when I try to explain why I didn't call the customer back. I used to have Sprint/T-Mobile and it happened there. I switched over to ATT and it is still happening. I have 4 other phones on my account for family members and none of them is having this problem. This is not cool. This had to be an iphone issue.

It will be one of three things -

1. An error on the carrier voicemail system and delayed notifications being sent to devices.

2. An iOS error where the device is receiving the notification within a timely fashion max 60 seconds and it is delaying the notification to the user locally.

3.A combination of both.

Apple and the carriers will always blame each other… unfortunately the users are the ones that suffer.

This issue is still occurring on iOS 17. We are still testing with the new live transcribing voicemail feature that was released.

I do find it interesting that users are facing voicemail notification issues in 2023. Maybe the carriers and Apple will work together in the future.

Anything is possible, but the assertion the phone might be delaying the notification is highly unlikely. HIGHLY UNLIKELY. The most likely culprit for this user is the use of a MVNO carrier, who gets their service from a prime carrier. There are just too many hands in the chain of delivering voicemail messages going the lesser expensive route of using a MVNO.

I've had friends go the MVNO route to save money, only to have loads of issues, like delayed voicemail messages. There's an old saying........"you get what you pay for."
