App-specific password not working

I have used the app-specific password generator in the past at least eight times, with no problem. Now, I do exactly the same thing, and instead of generating the password, I get "Continue on one of your devices..." I opened Apple ID on my iPad and iPhone, but then what? I tried generating the password on my Mac, iPad and iPhone with the same results. I have only three apps listed, so I'm not over the limit.

The "Continue on one of your devices" message is likely part of the implementation of the Passkey feature for iOS, iPad 16 and Ventura. It is currently only supported by certain web sites and apps, including the Safari app. The site or app is making a call to your trusted device(s) for you to authenticate from the device itself (using Face ID or Touch ID). However, the trusted mobile device implementation appears to be unclear at this stage (Apple's support articles do not currently address this) and it is possibly best employed by first setting up Passkeys on your devices as provided in Sign in with passkeys on iPhone - Apple Support

If you are having problems with this feature when using Safari then an alternative solution is to not use Safari for what it is you are trying to do. Use a different browser that does not have this feature in it. See this August 17, 2023 post by Community Specialist Chris_V89 at i followed the exact steps of the app spe… - Apple Community

- So I ended up getting on the phone with Apple about this… turns out it was an issue with Safari. As soon as I tried to create a new app-specific password in Chrome, it worked perfectly.

Thank you Limnos! That's insane for Apple to continue to require NOT to use Safari. Interestingly, I tried it with Firefox on my iPad without success, but Firefox on the Mac worked.

Not being able to use Airmail for Apple mail on my iPad was a major problem until you responded with the correct solution. Thanks again Limnos.
