How do I reset my Ipod

I have an old Ipod and want to reset it. The screen says Itunes but doesn't do anything. I have tried to update it but not successful.

My iPod shows a cable and iTunes picture but won’t do anything iPod won’t go beyond a page with a cable, arrow pointing towards iTunes circle and say’s support.Apple.com/iPod/restore
