YouTube search input box doesn't function in safari

I have no problem loading YouTube pages in Safari, but when I go to my channels to search their videos the search tab is at the very right hand end of the menu bar. Once I navigate to the search tab and click to enter my cursor the menu reverts to the left hand end and I cannot enter my search.

We appreciate the update, PhilDarb.

Thanks for clarifying that. If you're only having this issue with Safari, you could try setting up a new administrator account on your Mac and then testing there to see if you get the same result. That will help determine if the issue is system-wide or user-specific and whether this may be a case where you'll need to contact the website developer. Here's how to set up a new user for testing: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

If the issue persists in a newly-created administrator account, that's when you'll need to check with the website developer.

All the best.

Hello PhilDarb,

Does this issue only happen with the YouTube website, or do you experience issues with other webpages in Safari as well? That information will help us plan how to proceed.

If a webpage isn't working as expected on your Mac, please check out this link, which has some suggestions that may help correct the issue: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac

If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac

If Safari doesn't load a webpage, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or otherwise doesn't work as expected, these solutions might help.

These solutions are for issues that can affect Safari on Mac, including issues such as these:
* A webpage is blank, doesn't load all of its content, or otherwise doesn't work as expected.
* You can't sign in to a webpage, despite using the correct sign-in information.
* A webpage asks you to remove or reset cookies.
* Safari slows down, stops responding, or quits unexpectedly.

If you're using an iPhone or iPad, learn about solutions for Safari on iPhone and iPad.

Reload the page

From the menu bar in Safari, choose View > Reload Page. Or press Command-R.

If Safari doesn't reload the page, quit Safari, then try again. If Safari doesn't quit, you can press Option-Command-Esc to force Safari to quit.

If Safari automatically reopens unwanted pages, quit Safari, then press and hold the Shift key while opening Safari. Learn how to control which windows Safari automatically reopens.

Thanks!

Thanks for those details PhilDarb,

Since you confirmed it is happening on Safari as well as other third-party browsers, it sounds like you've isolated the issue to be with YouTube, and not your MacBook Pro or the software on it.

Since that's the case, you may want to reach out to YouTube directly for assistance with their webpage: How to contact an app developer.

Take care.

As I said, I have no problem loading pages and all other navigation is fine it is just that the search does not work.

This is not an isolated case. There are many threads about exactly this issue on numerous forums. It also isn't restricted to Safari.

On the channels that I subscribe to, the menu bar features "search" at the far right end. You have to advance with the arrow to get to it. Once there, the magnifying glass shows, but there is no search box and nowhere else to enter search terms. Clicking on the magnifying glass or anywhere close to it where the pointer appears only causes the menu bar to re-set to the left hand end making the search tab inaccessible.
