iPhone flashing in the middle of the night

Is there a new way for thieves to hack iPhones? I see others had this happen awhile ago. I’m not sure how long it’s been going on or if this is the first time on my phone. I only know it happened because it was caught on Nanny Cam and I just happened to watch it. FIRST there was a flashing outside (maybe someone else on their phone??). I could see the flashing in the camera. And then after that flashing stopped, my phone was flashing several times. There was NO sound and there were no alerts on my phone. I slept through the whole thing. Creepy. Has me thinking some kind of hack is going on.

iPhone XS Max, iOS 14

Did you see this only on camera footage?

IR waves are emitted from phones {proximity sensors etc} We can’t see this light with our own eyes, but it’s easily picked up by cameras.

Do you think this could be the cause?

I had that happen; I saw lights blinking on camera, coming from my phone. It scared me until I looked it up!!

What color is it?

If it’s not IR light, and it’s your camera’s flashlight flashing instead; it could be that you have flashing notifications on. Be sure to check your settings if that’s the case. Pull down in settings to reveal the search bar and search for “LED”. It should be under accessibility and LED flashing for alerts.

{You did say that it was happening without notifications, but I don’t know anything else it could be besides those two things!}

My LED goes off all the time in silent and sleep mode for little things like reminders and medications etc; but I’m not sure what it could be since you said it went off with no alerts?

i have this same issue, it’s not the flashlight on the phone it’s the whole screen. i’ve noticed that it “flashes” when it goes from the screen being on(either just from waking the phone or being on standby mode) to then going black, it’s randomly flash. noticed it a few weeks after getting this iphone 15pro and at first we thought it was someone outside taking pictures with the flash on it’s so bright! ended up observing the flash happen a few times which made me less concerned about a stalker and more worried about my phone just going kaputt one day. found a reddit thread that also has a lot of people with this same issue. hoping apple can just fix it with a software update cos it can be quite alarming when you don’t know it’s just a glitch.

There could be many reasons maybe your phone has a water damage, maybe if it’s iPhone 15/ 15 plus /pro/ promax there could be a thermal issue as you would know those phones are really hot and I’m using one and it’s unbearable sometimes or maybe there is something wrong with your chip or your motherboard and last thing it may be that your phone is hacked. What I would suggest is that first you factory reset your phone Then, if the issues continue, you can just go to any Apple Store in your city or authorized sellers. They will fix it in a day or two better you might get a new phone on your limited warranty

I have ring cameras around my house and one in my room. At night I go in and plug my phone in then lay down. Every time someone moves my phone starts flashing like crazy. I can see it flashing all the time on the camera. It doesn’t do it when I’m looking at the phone. It does it when I’m walking with it or if there is movement around. I don’t see this flashing except in the camera video

I have an iPhone 14 and no matter what settings I have disabled having anything to do with strobing, a few nights a week at least I am scared poopless by the sudden flashing and the system haptic vibration. My room is incredibly dark and I get a real shock. I have found many more reports of this problem and Apple has zero to contribute. Oh well. It's not a hack it's a glitch... Thought Yt first it was an emergency alert. Apple...don't believe the hype.

Just a guess but I think that it is our front cameras doing it. And I think it has to do with Face ID. Everytime there is motion around my phone (in the middle of the night) even when no one is really around it. Me and kids in bed sleeping and one sits up, the phone starts flashing like crazy. So I think it is doing it so it can identify when someone is looking at it maybe…… idk but every night I can see mine go crazy on my camera

Mine is an iPhone 15 pro max 1 Tb. It goes off all hours of the day and night. However, during the day, you only see the screen illuminate with no notification. But during the dark times, when our home security cameras are on night vision, you can see the screen illuminate and see 5 bright flashes, (on the security camera footage only). The 5 bright flashes are NOT the camera LED. These flashes come from IR lighting somewhere withing the front of the phone. I know this because I have another security camera with night vision in the room that maintains an exact bright light on all the time from the small red IR lights around its camera lens. I have actually been looking at the iPhone and my live camera feed simultaneously and could not see the flashes with my naked eye but I could clearly see them on the camera feed. China won't get anything from my private residence but that 1 in 1000 times, they might get lucky with a business iphone.

This is simply just another way for China, who manufactures and programs the iPhone to steal 5 quick pictures in not only private homes but also in business laboratories and spaces that only company phones and people with high security clearance access can go. Believe it or not, 5 quick pictures from a company lab iphone, (required to stay within a secure area) that is in its charging cradle, of a piece of secret technology sitting on a lab bench is all it takes to analyze and steal proprietary technology. It happens all the time. It use to require a live human spy to break into labs and take pictures with tiny cameras. Now its done remotely with technology. Read this quickly because it will probably be deleted as soon as it is discovered.
