Files are not saving in the folder I'm working in. When I attempt to save and the most recent folders show in the dropdown menu, whatever folder I choose is ignored and the file goes to either my documents, and sometimes, even out to my user folder. I'm using Monterey 12.6.8.

I don't think you're understanding the problem. The first screenshot is where I am selecting to save my file out of inDesign, Illustrator, whatever software I'm using at the time. The second screenshot is showing where the file saves instead of the selected folder - both highlighted. (I've grayed out client file folders for their privacy)

Sorry, do not see a " Most Recent Folder "
I do see a " Open Recent " 2 image
I also see the ability to change to Location to save the file. 3 image
I am trying to save them in folders within the User Account Folder. They are going out to the main user folder, not the separate folders I have set up for my clients and jobs within that user folder. This is a problem that just popped up within the last 1-2 months. Before that, everything has been saving in the correct file just fine.
In macOS Monterey you can only save documents in the User Account folder which is the Home Folder of the computer
All other areas of the Operating System are Sealed and Read Only
There was a similar post a while back that I cannot find. I don't know if there was a solution.
Try starting up in Safe Mode to clear system caches, then restart normally.
