Split view is not working. I get the message "not available in split view." I have tried updating the computer and restarting. I have been able to use it in the past. I have also checked my settings under "Desktop & Dock" to ensure that "Displays have separate spaces" is toggled on per Apple guidance.

I use this feature frequently and this issue only started up today. I cannot split the screen between 2 Microsoft Word files as I have done in the past.

I am running a 2021 Macbook Pro with OS 13.5.1

I was also having this issue. I finally figured out a solution (couldn't find an answer in any of these threads). Check to see if the navigation bar on the left is open. (I mean the one that will show thumbnails and let you find and replace.) Once I turned that off, I was able to view both Word documents, no problem. It seems to be a glitch. Once the screens are split, I can turn the navigation bar back on with no problem looking at both documents.

To clarify what was happening for me, I have 2 Word documents open. I want to compare those documents by looking at them side-by-side. When I try to use the Split Screen feature with Doc1, it tells me that Doc2 is unavailable. "Displays have separate spaces" is set correctly. I have tried renaming the documents, closing both and then reopening them, quitting Word and reopening. Nothing worked until I turned off that sidebar.

Split view what...? You do not say.

Not all applications esp third party apps lend themselves to split view.
