I have a friend who just got a MacBook Air M2 but he has an Android phone already. He doesn't want to get an iPhone though. He wants to in any way sync his Mac to his Android phone. Is there any way? If this is not possible, is there a way to at least sync the phone numbers so that those will sync from devices in messages? Any ideas?

Sync what, exactly? There's no way to connect iMessages to an Android, to the best of my knowledge. It's been a while since I've had an Android phone but, depending on what account they keep their contacts in, it shoudl be pretty straightforward to add that account to the Android.
Sync phone numbers so that you could send sms that would be the same on both? He just has to have two separate ecosystems that don't interact, and would like that to be the opposite. But, would like to sync phone numbers so it is the same phone number on the computer and android phone. Any other ideas?
You can't send an SMS from a Mac unless it has an iPhone connected to it. Or, unless your cell phone carrier has some other option. Verizon, for example, has something called Messages+ that will allow you to sync your SMS messages to your cellphone.
Synchronization is achieved via your AppleID. Android users cannot use an AppleID as Apple users do; the two won't recognize each other.
I would note that there are other sorts of synchronization besides Apple ID/iCloud. Because, when I first got an iPhone, I also had an Android phone through work, I used Gmail/Gmail Contacts to keep my contacts synced across all of my devices, both Apple and non-Apple. It continues to work well for me.
Photos can be synced through Google Photos. Apple Music can be accessed from an Android phone.
Using Google contacts would allow your friend to have the same contacts on both their Android phone and their Mac. But, it would still not allow them to send or receive SMS messages from the Mac.
