There are a few reasons why Apple banned Fortnite from the App Store and has not brought it back:

- Fortnite violated Apple's App Store guidelines by introducing a direct payment option within the app, bypassing Apple's in-app purchase system. This meant that Apple would not get its 30% cut of in-app purchases made in Fortnite on iOS.

- Epic Games intentionally provoked the ban by knowingly violating the guidelines and launching a PR and legal campaign against Apple's App Store policies. This was part of Epic's strategy to challenge Apple's control and fees for the iOS platform.

- The dispute led to a lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games. There is ongoing legal action and neither side wants to back down from their stance. Apple does not want to set a precedent of allowing apps to bypass its payment system.

- Epic wants Fortnite back on iOS but also wants to offer its own payment system. Apple has refused to allow this, saying it would compromise the security and privacy of the App Store ecosystem.

- Negotiations between Apple and Epic to try and resolve the dispute have stalled. Neither side wants to capitulate on their principles or financial interests.

- Apple likely sees little incentive to bring Fortnite back until the legal issues are resolved. Fortnite is still available on other platforms, so Apple may see little urgency or upside in reinstating it.

In summary, the ban resulted from a deliberate challenge by Epic, and the ongoing legal dispute means neither side is willing to make concessions to bring Fortnite back to iOS at the moment.
