Space bar not giving me a floating cursor

I have a 10th Gen iPad running on OS 16, and when I hold the space bar down, the keys disappear, but it still will not allow me to get the floating cursor so I can move it where I need it. I looked under accessibility, but saw nowhere where I can address it.

See:

Type with the onscreen keyboard on iPad - Apple Support

Turn the onscreen keyboard into a trackpad

  • Touch and hold the Space bar with one finger until the keyboard turns light grey.

  • Move the insertion point by dragging around the keyboard.

  • To select text, touch and hold the keyboard with a second finger, then adjust the selection by moving the first finger around the keyboard.

See Select, cut, copy, and paste text for more ways to select text.
