Apple USB-C Digital AV Multi-port Adaptor not charging.

Hi, I'm having trouble charging my iPad Pro using the Apple AV adaptor. Actually, I've got two of them: A2119 and A1621... both work great in all respects except not possible to power the iPad via the USB-C port. I've tried various USB-C cables, various power sources, all of which work fine and point to the AV adaptor as the common element... as soon as i put it in the chain (ie. connect to ipad, feed in usb-c power from the same cable that's powering the ipad normally)... The ipad shows the icon for the connected AV adaptor until i plug in the USB-C power from the wall. At that point charging stops and the adaptor icon on the iPad disappears.

The AV adaptor is passing power out from the iPad to devices connected to the USB-A port. Perhaps USB-A out and USB-C power in are not connected.

Any ideas?

If it is that i have two faulty adaptors... how does an adapter stop working? Does the usb-c path fry on the inside of the adaptor somehow? Seems to be more than a handful of others with similar question over the years.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

Are you currently using the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters? It seems like the issue may be related to the adapters based on the troubleshooting that you have tried so far to isolate the issue.

Are you able to charge your iPad with the adapter connected with only the power input? Test trying to charge without any video or USB outputs connected.

Please reply back with the results.

Yes they are apple adaptors from the Apple Store I’ve collected over the years. The model numbers mentioned are the latest two I think. Yes they are usb-c. Also yes, everything works fine charging normally with the usb -c cable…. The problem arises when either of the two apple adapter is put in line: there is no usb c power flowing through the adaptor. Out via usb A works through the adaptor …. In via usb C nope. For either adaptor. I can’t remember them ever working. =[
