iMac, Music App, not rcognizing IOS devices, when plugged into USB Ports

I have an iMac, MacOS 12.6.8. When I plug in an IOS device, iPhone XR, iPad 9th Gen, the iMac does not detect, that the IOS devices are connected to the iMac and therefore does not boot up the Music App. Manually launching the Music App, the IOS devices do not appear on the left side of the Music screen, thus I can not sync the IOS devices to the Music App. 


What would cause this? The charging cords seem to be operational, because they charge the devices. Is there anything else I can check?

I assume you are aware that If your Mac is using macOS Catalina or later you sync using Finder:

Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your Mac - Apple Support
