I am getting an error message when trying to view a couple of websites that my PHP file? program? needs to be updated to 7.0. I am currently running Catalina ver. 10.15.7 and the error message says I am running PHP 5.6.40. Apple says I am up to date so am I missing an Apple update or?
I’m going to make a few assumptions here…
That message is local to the web server, and is not related to your iPhone or iPad or macOS client.
If these websites are not websites that you are maintaining, contact the website maintainer.
If these are your websites, then you will need to resolve the issue yourself, within the context of the web server. That probably means updating your php installation. Exactly how to do that depends on the particular web site you are running, and how to configure that for a non-default php install.
If you’re running macOS Server as implied by the choice of forum, that largely became a confusingly-named MDM package with macOS 10.14 and later and until the deprecation of Server, and those versions are is not really intended or configured for serving web sites and such. The last of the macOS Server server package focused on web servers and other network services was macOS 10.13.
With macOS Server deprecated, Apple is also deprecating and removing php from its macOS client distributions. The existing php installs provided by Apple are all pretty old.
To resolve this on macOS Server, check with somebody that is running the same (presumably) content management system you are using here on macOS Server, and how to update the php for that. If you want to discuss that here, we’ll need to know which content management system, if these websites aren’t all home-grown services. (And we may still need to send you elsewhere.) This might be as easy as downloading the current php from the php.net website (php 8.2.9 is current) and installing it, or it might be much more involved.
I still have access to at least one macOS Server 10.13 configuration, but am not in a position to test a php install (upgrade) with that.
