Voice Control continuously turns on with earbuds and headphones - I tried EVERYTHING!

Whenever I have earbuds or headphones on, voice control ALWAYS connects and calls people in my contacts. I've googled this issue and read previous posts and have done (I believe) all the steps. I would like to say I've tried everything but it still connects. It is SO FRUSTRATING! Voice Control is off. Audio Descriptions is off. Voice Over is off. Microphone is off except for a few apps. Sound Recognition is off. Background sounds on Audio/Visual is off. Siri is off. Please help.

I’ve found this “solution” that worked for an user, I’ll paste the instructions here, I’m sorry for your issue :( it should at least stop the calls momentarily:

I‘ve been dealing with the same problem for ages. I‘ve found a strange solution that at least stops the calls. Basically this works if you don‘t use Siri. Initially I went to great trouble to disable Siri as far as possible. So whenever I accidentally pushed the button on my Bluetooth headphones Voice Control would activate. Then I went through all the steps to disable Voice Control. Sadly - at least if you‘re using non-Apple Bluetooth Headphones - Voice Control will still come on if you push the appropriate button on the headphones. Even after you‘ve disabled it. Now for the extremely annoying workaround: Turn Siri on once, then turn it off again straight away. From then on whenever you push the button on your headphones your phone will prompt you to activate Siri, rather than launch Voice Control. Not terribly satisfying but it‘ll stop you randomly calling your college advisor you haven‘t spoken to in a decade at 3 a.m.

Hello!

Is this happening with AirPods Pro?

Seems like you already had done this:

Turn off Classic Voice Control on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You may check if your side button isn't mapped to trigger Voice Over:

About the Accessibility Shortcut for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

I think that you should try to delete your headphones and pair them again.

You could also try to:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support just in case there is some software issue.

You are right, this is a major problem.

I got your point when you said that the majority of the users won’t press the “me too” button.

I do also think that the vast majority won’t report this problem here

Product Feedback - Apple

It’s the right way to make the developers notice this problem!

Maybe it’s also a good idea to see a Genius and talk to him directly, if you haven’t already done it.

Wish you the best!

Thank you for your response. Classic Voice Control and Accessibility short cut are off. When I hold the side button, nothing happens or changes, assuming this means it is off.

I am not using AirPods Pro, just a standard set of earbuds. But my headset is Bose wireless which are secure on my head. I say this because one of the troubleshooting issues is if the earbud is loose. But even if the earbud is loose, if I have Voice Control off in every setting it should not be turning. My phone is also updated. I've completed a forced restart and it still happens.

This doesn't happen all the time with music and podcasts but it does happen almost daily. I've thought about scheduling a genius bar appointment but don't think it will recreate the issue when I am there. It happens mostly when lying down listening to a meditation using headphones and not earbuds. Listening to a soothing voice or music and then all of all sudden I hear Voice Control come on to say it's calling some random person in my contact list and then calls them. This morning it happened 4 times.

I will restart my phone again but any other suggestions.

Yes, I have removed them and paired multiple times. Like I said, it doesn't matter what earbuds or Headphones I am using. My headphones do not have any buttons that can easily be pressed. It happens with the headphones when I'm just lying there and not moving. There is no sound going on except what I am listening to. My issue sounds exactly like the other person's post you linked. This issue has been happening for over 2 years for me now and I've tried everything. I basically barely use my headphones for meditating because this constantly happens and like the other person said, it is very frustrating and embarrassing that I am calling random people late at night. I am not always able to get to the phone to turn it off before it calls them.

The other person's comment was "Will there be a software update to completely turn off voice control when using headphones?"

I am not the first person to have this issue and it seems to be consistent with iphones and headphones that are not Apple's products.

This morning was the most frustrating because voice control turned on 4 times.

Again, even if the earbud is loose as the troubleshooting suggest; if voice control is off in every setting, why is it still turning on? This seems like an Apple bug.

So, my question is, Will there be a software update to completely turn off voice control when using headphones? The solution can't be that I just need to use apple products.

Thank you. But was will Apple's solution be? On the previous post you linked, there were 871 other users that have the same issue. I've been having this issue for years and have tried "work arounds" but eventually we all give up. I've never checked a me too box before so I'm assuming the majority of iphone users have just given up and created their own "work around". We shouldn't have to turn off all products and then trick the system by turning Siri on and off and wait for it to fail. If you're meditating, you don't want to be interrupted. Although I understand this is the only "solution" apple is supporting after everything else has been tried. I'm not frustrated with you. I super appreciate your time and you are giving me the answers that are available; but what about future fixes and options other than just making it work the best we can for the issue? Is this an issue on Apple's radar and is it being looked at? If not, how can I bring it their attention to be researched and addressed?

I’ve been having this same issue and can’t find anything to fix it. It also seems like even after turning Siri on and off, the voice command that activates from the headphones will re-enable after you press it the first time. My headphones keep calling people at random times of the night. I’m so fed up with these but they were a gift and can’t return them. It’s crazy to me that Apple knows this is an issue but aren’t fixing it.
