How do I change a payment method for a subscription managed by iTunes if I no longer use it?

I received a notification from my New York Times digital account that my form of payment (card) on file had expired and I needed to change my form of payment. When I go to do that in my account settings, all I see is this: PAYMENT METHOD ITunes This subscription is managed through Apple ITunes. How to I change my payment information in Apple ITunes? I have already changed the payment info connected with my Apple ID.

I had the exact same problem. I finally called the NYT and spoke to someone. Turns out I’ve been paying for both an all-access account through NYT directly and an add-on games subscription (which I didn’t need) through iTunes. DOH!


For some reason, I was able to see only the iTunes in my account information and it took a call to straighten things out and update my cc info. I also canceled the iTunes subscription, obviously.

I contacted the NYT by phone to do it. Took two calls and two separate days (total of about 45 minutes of phone time) with three different representatives. Got some shady information about billing and had to input my new credit card info over the phone vs online or ON my phone. Then was given erroneous info on when the next billing cycle will be. Finally got someone who I sorta believe got it right. We will see...
