iCloud Photos fail to archive existing files

I recently had to reload iCloud onto my PC (Windows 10). I now get the following message: iCloud Photos failed to archive existing files and cannot start. Please restart your computer." Restarting does nothing. Any suggestions? I have tried re-loading iCloud.

Windows, Windows 10

Hey there abbiefrombtown,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some basics:

  1. You mentioned reinstalling iCloud for Windows on your Windows PC, but what was the reason you did that in the first place?
  2. Are you performing a specific action within iCloud for Windows that causes the message to show, or does it show immediately as soon as you open iCloud for Windows?
  3. You mentioned a restart hasn't had any affect, but have you also checked for any Microsoft Windows updates available to install?

Cheers!
