Pencil's battery drains automatically even when it's attached to the iPad

I have been observing something weird happening with my Pencil.

Suppose my Pencil is at 50%. I attach it to my iPad at night. The Pencil starts charging once I attach it to the iPad. The next morning I wake up, the battery's full.

Now Suppose my Pencil is at 100%. I attach it to my iPad at night. It doesn't charge as its already full. The next morning I wake up, the Pencil has drained completely! Its at 0%! I tried to keep Bluetooth for a whole night. Still, the battery drains completely!

Is there any problem with my Pencil? Or am I doing something wrong? Please suggest me a solution to this problem and help me!

Same experience.

Every time I’m finished using Pencil (gen 2) I dock it on the side of my iPad Pro - and the charging icon light up. When I done using the iPad I connect it to charge overnight (or just during a break) And when I pick it up next day the pencil is totally drained. Very annoying and illogical🤬

Apple we need a solution. I just purchased a new iPad Pro and Pencil pro this weekend. I left pencil connected while I was at work. When I opened iPad my pencil was at 15% battery life. Why? It was full when I fell asleep last night. iPad was sleep all day. My iPad was at 97% battery life, while the pen was at 15%. I’ve already given up on apple airpods. Please don’t let me down on this new product.

It is generally recommended that a second generation Apple Pencil is always docked with the host iPad whenever the Pencil is not being actively used - as this will ensure that the Pencil is optimally charged. The iPad will automatically regulate charging of the Pencil.

Turning-off Bluetooth overnight serves no useful purpose - any power saving for being negligible.

If you see unexpected behaviour, try a forced restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the issue is not resolved with a restart of the iPad, you might consider visiting the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil:
