Nikon CFexpress Cards are not seen on iMac

I've found a go around for the card not being read. I'm using Nikon File Transfer 2 and this is working for me to see the CFExpress card and download to an external drive. I use the Express card primally for video on my Nikon D500 so its important be able to download the large files and this works. You must connect via USB cable and transfer using Nikon Transfer 2 free software from Nikon. Hope this helps or Nikon and Apple community. Here's the link: Nikon Software Download

I also use the Nikon Transfer software but l use Image Capture. The latter has almost no learning curve compared to the Nikon package.

The root issue is the camera makers, unlike computer makers, have not agreed on a common storage media formatting. Apple can't force them to change, but makes Image Capture a free part of macOS.
