Why does my computer keep saying my icloud password is incorrect when I try and sign in even though I know its the right password?

I have recently cleared my mac of all its data and signed in under a new account and am trying to sign into my icloud account but my computer says my password is incorrect even though I have changed it multiple times and tried on other devices and it works. I am running mac os x yosemite since I have cleared all data on my laptop.

You mentioned - I am running mac os x yosemite since I have cleared all data on my laptop.

As per this article Use two-factor authentication for security on your Mac and iOS devices - Apple Support

To make a Mac (OS X El Capitan or later) or an iOS device (iOS 9 or later) a trusted device, you must sign in to iCloud using your Apple ID on the Mac or device.

Note : 2FA account can't be created in Mac OS Yosemite .

So , if you still wish to use secondary authentication , not only correct Apple ID password is required , the rest of correct credentials like three answers for respective questions , date of birth , rescue mail address and its password are required to set up new Mac , else you have to upgrade the Mac How to download and install macOS – Apple Support

Hello RhysReynolds,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Does your Apple Id have the extra layer of security called two-factor authentication? If so, when you sign in, you'll need to use either a six-digit verification code or a physical security key. For more information, check this out:

Use two-factor authentication for security

If you don't use two-factor authentication with your Apple Id, please let us know, and we'll go from there.

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
