Beats Solo3 Wireless repair and warranty

Purchase a pair of Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones back in May. Right ear died recently (seems an extremely common occurrence). On my iPhone, under Bluetooth info for headphones it says they are under warranty until March of next year. Only closest “authorized” service center is Best Buy, but they told me that even under warranty it would cost more to fix than to buy new ones (and would I like to buy some?) Is this just Best Buy B.S.? Closest Apple Store is 2 hrs. away. Does anyone know if I can get these repaired without it costing as much as the headphones? Can I just mail them to Apple?

The coating on the headphones is thin colored plastic and is coming off in pieces. I love the headphones but every time I wear them small pieces stick to my ears, neck and chest. Is this warranty covered?
