Cancelled all my subscriptions, still trying to charge me

I went thru my account yesterday cancelling all unwanted subscriptions. I even went thru the ones on the cancelled list to make sure none of them said “update payment method” and that they all were cancelled. I woke up this morning to multiple attempts by the App Store to charge my card and a message saying to update my method or my phone might not function properly. Why on earth would I update my payment method if there is no transparency as to why I am being charged this amount three payments totaling almost $50. I can’t find renewal receipts I can’t find any explanation as to why I am being charged this amount. Help

happened to me aswell, a subscription came out around a month ago and I needed the money for something else so I cancelled the subscription straight away and asked for a refund. I then got the refund back after a couple hours and thought nothing of it. Only to look on my account today to see ‘-£18.95’ and they took away the money that I refunded a month back and I saw they re activated the subscription that I had cancelled. Such a thieving company.

Did you cancel the subscription properly using the the link in the primary link I provided a year ago? Please read replies because your question only marginally deals with the issue being discussed in this topic. It is confusing if we help too many people about different things in one topic. People get confused as to which advice they should follow.

This support article explains how to cancel a subscription from Apple on an Apple mobile device, Mac, PC, and online ➔ If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

Notes:

• You might need to scroll down to find the Cancel Subscription button.

• If you don’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription is already canceled and won't renew. An "Expires" date (instead of "Renews") means the current subscription has been canceled but will work until the expiration date. "Resubscribe" (or Renew) is just in case you change your mind about having it end.

• Deleting an app does not cancel a subscription.

• If you don’t cancel trials more than 24 hours before your renewal date, your subscription might renew.

• If you don't have an Apple device, see the options near the bottom of the support document.

• Many subscriptions are set to renew automatically until you intentionally cancel them.

Yeah, same, not sure as to why it does this but it's getting annoying. I had to pay the subscription fee and then cancel it, so I don't know as to why it keeps trying to charge me
  • What was the exact description of the charge?
  • Are you the Organizer of a Family Sharing plan?
  • Did you sign up for a free trial and forget to cancel it?
  • Was it cancelled by this method?

Here's a more detailed and descriptive list that includes a few reasons and solutions not mentioned in the article posted earlier:

The support article If you see 'apple.com/bill' on your billing statement - Apple Support explains how you can check your iTunes and App Stores purchase history, cancel subscriptions, and track possible sources of unrecognized Apple charges you may see on a bill. These may be purchases by family members if you are an organizer of a Family Sharing group, or possibly a second Apple ID you use. The article also provides a specific link for contacting Apple if you cannot trace the source of charges. If you use Apple Card you may find this document helpful too ➞ If you see an Apple Services charge you don't recognize on your Apple Card - Apple Support

Also note this service: View your App Store and iTunes Store purchases directly from your financial institution - Apple Support

"When you sign in to your financial institution website or mobile app and view your recent purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or for Apple Music or iCloud services, you may see an option—such as View Receipt—that allows you to view more details about your transaction."

Other possibilities to consider (not all may apply in your situation):

● Purchases can be made with your ID if your Apple ID is compromised (read what to do ➞ If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support ) or somebody else has access to your device (require a purchase password as explained in this article ➞ Require a password for App Store and iTunes purchases - Apple Support ).

● If you only see a charge in emails or texts that are not official Apple receipts, it is likely phishing attempts (see the article: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support ).

● If you are absolutely certain neither you, nor Apple, nor a Family Sharing member can account for a charge and it ONLY appears on a bill for a charge card you alone control, you may have been the victim of card fraud. Contact your financial institution.

● Small amounts of ~$1 may be an authorization hold that will be refunded (pending charge ➞ How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support ).

● Unanticipated amounts may be grouped charges ( How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support ).

If a purchase is listed in your purchase history and you want to ask for a refund, read this article about how to request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple ➞ Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

If a Family Sharing member made the purchase then you need to discuss this with that person. They would have to initiate any refund request.

When you sign up for a free trial or subscription with the developer directly, Apple cannot manage the subscription and cancel it for you. In that case, you have to cancel the subscription with that company directly. Just because you use Apple Pay does not mean that Apple manages the subscription. That subscription is billed directly by the developer to your payment method, it does not go through Apple Pay.

Apple does not save or have access to your physical card numbers or even know what you purchased. A unique code provided by your bank is sent to the developer that allows them to bill the bank directly for the purchase/subscription that you authorized. Any recurring charges do not go through Apple Pay and Apple does not even know what they are. They have charged your bank directly and your bank is the one that will show the transaction to your Wallet. If you choose to dispute a transaction, that needs to be done with the bank that issued the card. Apple Pay is not a bank and only verified it is you that initiated a transaction, it is still the bank that approves/denies the purchase.

If you owe money you have to pay for it. You can then try to ask for a refund. Remember that you have to cancel subscriptions at least 24 hours in advance. More is better. If you're too late then you still get charged. If you cannot trace the source of the charge, read everything I posted many months ago. It may be somebody else with a subscription.
