Macbook M1 Pro (Monterey 12.6.8) internal screen not working

Hello Apple Community,

just recently the internal monitor of my M1 Pro stopped working.

I managed to fix that once with the diagnostic system 3 weeks ago.

I booted the Macbook today and it showed nothing again.

Diagnostic system not helping anymore. Im just getting a signal to my external Monitor.

Does anyone experieced the same with the M1?

Is there a solution without updating to higher OS.

The screen is not broken because its still showing some blurry symbols and menus, but very dark and impossible to navigate.

Thankful for any help on that.

Greetings Vaelli :)

Getting Screen to Work:

Tray Reinstall the macOS:

The drivers may have gone missing, somehow. This typically occurs when installing software, and it got stuck while in the process.

A. Mirror the Screen to an External Display:

Performing the following will mirror the Home Screen, and allow you to use it as if it were you laptop's screen.

  • Without Touchbar: Hold Down [command + F1]
  • With Touchbar: Hold Down: [command + dull screen]

B. Then, Perform the Reinstall...

Home is part of the macOS. So, one option would be to reinstall the macOS to fix any bugs in this app. Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple Support. Boot into Recovery Mode (Intel or Silicon).  Important: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be sure to Back up your Mac with Time Machine.

Have you tried to adjust the brightness using the brightness controls on the keyboard or Touchbar? If you are using an external monitor, then you can also adjust the brightness using the Display System Preferences/Settings.

Otherwise, there is likely a hardware failure of some sort with the laptop...most likely the built-in Display is bad, but could possibly be a bad Logic Board or cable. You will need to have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate assuming adjusting the brightness does not help.
