Text Replacement Failures

The text replacement feature seems to fail consistently in even some of the apps built into the OS, like in every field except the Notes field of the Calendar.app. Is there a way to make it always work like in iOS? Paying for some 3rd party text expander and having to recreate the hundreds of text replacements for the computer is unacceptable when the feature already exists and is just being disabled in some situations and apps.

Mac Studio, macOS 13.5

Could you give some specific examples?

In Apple apps, you may need to go to Edit > Substitutions and make sure that Text Replacement is checked. Some major 3rd party apps, like Word, do not use Apple's system but have their own which you have to activate separately.

When writing “long form” text I have never seen it fail (like here as I am posting in Safari, or writing in TextEdit or any text application, from Apple or third parties). In text boxes, though, it does not always work. I think this has to do with the system API that applications use to handle text in each case. I don’t think that this can be changed by the user, but I could be proven wrong.

There seem to be a few places text replacement does not work. ITerm2 for example, and some websites I guess depending on whether they use a standard text object or use custom JavaScript.

The only other Ouch about text replacement is there seems to be a 2,000 character limit. I have a few discussions.apple.com standard replies that could be better explained if there was more room in the replacement text.
