Warning: Macbook air is extremely sensitive to moisture

My daughter unfortunately cleaned her new macbook air with slightly damp towel.

That was sufficient to cause water damage. I did this since decades with my laptops (not mac). If Macbook air 2022 is so sensitive, there should be an explicit warning.

As Apple specifically states that a damp cloth is acceptable, I suspect that there is more to this. It is highly unlikely that a "slightly damp towel" could cause water damage unless she squeezed the towel very hard over the keyboard. What was she cleaning off the Macbook? A brand new Macbook wouldn't need cleaning unless something got spilled on it.

Electronics and moist environment have never gone together well. There is an explicit warning applicable to all Macbooks:

I'm not sure why this was such a surprise. She left water on the screen, closed it and it dripped into the keyboard. If the computer was on, it would have been warm, those causing the humidity Bob mentioned.

The fact that there were enough fingerprints on the screen of a computer to require a damp cloth to remove them is a bad sign. It's not a touch screen. There's no reason to be touching it.

Yes, Macbook air 2022 hasn‘t got a touch screen, but all my other laptops I ever possessed, haven‘t got touch screens either and nevertheless I had to clean them including fingerprints. So why should this be a „bad sign“? I stick to what I wrote before. This Macbook is apparently very sensitive against moisture. Much more than the others I had so far.

It's a bad sign because it means, to me, that the computer is being mishandled. And, if it's being mishandled in one way, it's probably being mishandled in other ways. Like closing a wet screen over a keyboard.

I've had MBPs and MBAs for years. I've never had to clean fingerprints off the screen. I will admit to occasionally having to clean them after an especially violent sneeze but, that's easily done with a dry cloth. That and a special soft brush for sweeping away cat hair are the only things that ever touch my screen.
