Number changed involuntarily
when receiving texts from my daughter the message now says, “changed their number recently “
why?

Assuming this is iMessage and the message is “changed their phone number”, check the settings for the recipient in your contacts entry for them, and also confirm the correct email or a telephone number for the contact, and that those are listed in the order you would prefer iMessage use that.
